About Jason

Jason William Hait was born November 21, 1974, in Santa Monica, California, the first son of Valerie and Larry Hait. He was also welcomed by a seven-year-old sister, Chris. Jason grew up in the sleepy L.A. suburb of Chatsworth, along with Chris and brother Nick, who joined the family in 1981.

Growing up, Jason enjoyed regular travels and adventures with his paternal grandparents—his beloved Boppa and Nana. From a young age, Jason was a charismatic performer, proud of his talents for magic and for acting and singing, which he displayed in plays and musicals at L.A.’s Teenage Drama Workshop and at Chatsworth High School.

Creative writing was Jason’s truest love and greatest talent. Jason moved to New York City in 2000 and enrolled in NYU’s Creative Writing program in 2004, earning awards and honors for his contributions to the program, including various literary publications. He was proud to be part of the editorial staff of Dovetail: The McGhee Review and he graduated magna cum laude in 2008.

In 2009, Jason married Ayelet Prizant, whom he met originally when he befriended her younger brother and sister as teenagers. Jason and Ayelet reconnected in their mid-20s and fell in love in 2000. They lived happily together in Brooklyn, where Jason indulged his other great passion: cooking.

Jason began creating sauces, dressings jams and marinades as The Pour Gourmet in 2009. He was enormously proud of his unique artistry in the kitchen and of the enthusiasm and rave reviews it garnered from friends, family and neighbors.

Jason Hait was a bright, sensitive, loving, funny, inquisitive, expressive, thoughtful, charming and insightful dreamer endowed with a warm heart, razor-sharp wit, keen sense of humor and great passion for life and learning. He is deeply missed by family, friends and all who knew him.
